THE RELIGIOUS PEACE TAX FUND BILL

In 1940, legislation in the United States Congress was passed establishing an alternative to military service, providing a legal way for conscientious objectors to nonviolently serve their country.  But there is still no alternative for the "drafted dollars" of citizens who conscientiously object to spending for military purposes.  This despite the fact that such legislation has been in committee since 1972, sponsored by congresspersons from various states in the U.S.

The Religious Freedom Peace Tax Fund Bill would amend tax law to recognize the legal status of conscientious objection to payment of military taxes.  The bill would establish a Religious Freedom Peace Tax Trust Fund in the federal treasury to receive the taxes of conscientious objectors.  Money from this fund would be allocated annually to any non-military appropriation in the federal budget.  None of the  money could be used for any military expense.

The National Campaign for a Peace Tax Fund is a non-profit advocacy organization working to pass Peace Tax Fund legislation.
